Zion National Park Camping
Zion National Park has two large campgrounds, one of which remains open throughout the winter. Watchman and South Campgrounds are located just within the south entrance to the park. Overnight camping fees are collected at the self-registration station at each campground.
Watchman Campground is located on a bench above North Fork Virgin River .4 miles north of Springdale and just south of the South Campground. Watchman Campground's 170 campsites include fire pits, picnic tables, and water, as well as central bathrooms with flush toilets and a central dump station. The campground is partly shaded and provides great views into Zion National Park. Laundry, groceries, and gas are all available within one mile of the campground. Watchman campground is closed from November through March.
South Campground, located half a mile from Springdale, provides Zion campers with an additional 180 campsites. This campground is situated along the Virgin River and provides ample shade and spectacular scenery. The campsites have fire pits, picnic tables, water, central bathrooms with flush toilets and a central dump station. Laundry, groceries, and gas are all available within one mile of the campground. South Campground is open year-round.
Both of these campgrounds fill up very quickly so you will need to arrive early in the day if you want to get a site. Gathering firewood is prohibited within the park so be sure to bring all of your firewood with you. Neither of these parks provides RV hookups and stays are limited to 14 days.
Lava Point Campground is a more primitive campground located in the northern section of the park. There are six sites on a first come first serve basis. The sites have fire pits, picnic tables, and pit toilets. There is no water available and no fee is charged for camping there |
