Zion Junior Ranger

Junior Ranger Program at Zion National ParkBecome a Junior Ranger at Zion National Park and learn more about the natural world all around. Program available May 27 through September 2, 2000.

Ages 6 through 12

Children 6 to 12 years old may participate and earn up to two awards: a certificate/pin and a patch. To earn both you must attend one session of the Junior Ranger Program at the Zion Nature Center and one other Ranger-led program (guided walk, patio talk, or evening program), or two Junior Ranger Programs. Awards may be collected at the Zion Nature Center from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. daily.

Ages 5 or younger

Children 5 years old or younger can earn a Junior Ranger decal. Complete an activity sheet available at the Zion Canyon or Kolob Canyons Visitor Centers.

Nature Center Programs

Programs are specifically designed for children 6-12 years old. The 6-year old minimum age is strictly enforced.

Daily Programs

Two different sets of programs are offered daily. Topics range from plants and animals to geology and archeology. Sessions are presented daily: 9:00 to 11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:00 p.m., May 27 through Sept. 2, 2000. The morning and afternoon sessions are different and children may attend both.

Registration

Sign-up at the Zion Nature Center. Register for the 9:00 a.m. session at 8:30 and for the 1:30 p.m. session at 1:00. There is a US $2.00 per child fee.

Zion Nature Center

The Nature Center is in the South Campground. Watch for the Nature Center sign 1/2 mile north of the park entrance.

What to Wear

Many of our activities are outdoors. Dress comfortably and wear sturdy, closed-toe shoes; no sandals. Hats are good on hot, sunny days; bring raingear if the weather looks stormy.

Parents

Please make sure children have eaten before coming to the program. Children must be with their parents between sessions if attending both in the morning and in the afternoon. Please be prompt when dropping off and picking up children.

•Enhance your understanding and enjoyment of Zion National Park by taking part in a ranger program. Programs are offered at Zion Canyon and Kolob Canyons. Topics include geology, plants, animals, human history, and more. Programs include guided walks, guided shuttle tours, short talks at visitor centers, and evening programs at campground amphitheaters and at Zion Lodge.

•All programs are free. Check the weekly schedules posted at visitor centers and bulletin boards throughout the park for times, places, and subjects
